Tower Hamlets News Do you know what you are getting into?
09 May 2013
We want you to enjoy your nights out, but we also want you to arrive home safely.
Everyone likes a night out. But when you are planning what to wear or booking your babysitter do you also make arrangements for your journey home?
When you come out of a pub or club late at night and you haven’t booked a taxi or a mini-cab it can be tempting to use an unlicensed cab, especially if you have been drinking, but the reality is that if you get into an unlicensed mini-cab you are simply getting into a stranger’s car.
Your personal safety will be at risk, especially if you are a woman and you will not be covered by any insurance if you were involved in a traffic accident. Everyone should be aware of this, but women especially are at risk and even more so if they have been drinking alcohol.
If you are not sure at which venue your evening will end take a likely guess and book yourself a cab with a licensed operator. If you plans change throughout the evening call the cab company and change your pick up.
Never put yourself in a position where you approach a minicab driver. Any minicab driver that approaches you is acting illegally. Do not get in.
Only black cabs can be approached by customers and pick you up off the street.
Tower Hamlets Police want you to enjoy your nights out, but we also want you to arrive home safely, please remember to plan ahead.
Visit the tfl website for information on the ‘CABWISE’ app for smartphones or text the word “CAB” to 60835 and Transport for London will text you details of your nearest licensed cab companies.
Texts are charged a 35p per enquiry plus standard message rate.
