  • Homicide detectives are appealing to trace a man they wish to speak to in connection with the murder of a man in Whitechapel.Police were called by London Ambulance Service (LAS) at 17:39hrs on Saturday, 22 June to a man found deceased at a hostel in Code Street, E1.
  • Officers and LAS attended and the man, aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed he was stabbed. Enquiries are underway to trace and inform any next of kin.A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for 16:00hrs today, Sunday 23 June at Poplar Mortuary.Whilst officers believe they know who the victim is, they await formal identification and for next of kin to be informed.The Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating and an incident room has opened in Barking.Detectives wish to speak urgently to Mehretab Zemichael, a 42-year-old Eritrean man. He was last seen at the hostel in Code Street in the early hours of Saturday, 22 June. The public are advised not to approach Mehretab Zemichael if they see him, but to call police on 999.Anyone with any information that may assist the investigation should call the incident room on 020 8345 1570 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.There has been no arrest at present.
