Are You In Line For A Refund?

Newham cameras 2How can you tell an authorised camera?

The National Motorists Action Group (NMAG) is demanding that drivers issued parking fines using unauthorised CCTV cameras in Newham should receive a full refund, as the cameras concerned were not officially registered with the Vehicle Certification Authority (VCA), but we don’t yet know precisely which specific cameras they are referring to!

It has been reported that Newham raised around £350,000 in fines from around a dozen unauthorised cameras between 2011 and 2013.

As these cameras were not officially registered with the VCA, the NMAG believe that any fines issued as a result of images from these cameras should be totally refunded.

The council confirm that there is an internal investigation in progress. A spokesman is said to have added: “The council has decided that all outstanding fines from these fixed penalty notices issued via these cameras will be cancelled. Any cancelled fixed penalty notices that were subsequently paid will be refunded in full.

The question we must now ask is: How many more unauthorised cameras are other councils currently profiting from? Could Trading Standards look into this?
