Alexsejs Ivanovs, a 23 year old man of no fixed address, was riding on the east-bound District Line on Monday 8th July 2013, when he caused a panic.
He was tapping a large black suitcase, saying that; “There’s a bomb in here”. Two female passengers were so scared that they hurriedly left the train at Tower Hill. The woman with the suitcase beside her feet, as well as a male passenger alighted at Aldgate East. The man alerted staff.
Ivanovs was prosecuted, and after pleading guilty to communicating false information, racially aggravated harassment and a public order offence, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
