A new version of this scam is circulating. They e-mail you pretending to be from British Gas or the Ministry of Justice, and if you reply it leads to a similar problem on a different site. Beware.
URGENT ALERTS ARE BEING SENT OUT OVER A VICIOUS ROYAL MAIL E-MAIL SCAM
There is a nasty new scam doing the rounds which starts off with you receiving an e-mail supposedly from Royal Mail, saying that they have a letter or parcel for you.
It will then tell you what action to take to recover the item. This action will release what is being called the CryptoLocker Virus, which encrypts all of the files on your computer, and then blackmails you to get the files returned.
The following tips are being given to help prevent you falling foul of this vicious virus.
- Look at who the email is addressed to. Is it generic or specifically addressed?
- Look at the quality of the images included on the email. Are they of sufficient high quality that they could come from Royal Mail?
