Earlier this week I was watching the television show ‘Pointless’.

In this episode, for some reason all of the contestants were under 25ish.

The following question came up:

“Which word from the first two verses of the National Anthem would score the lowest?”

The first contestant admitted to  picking a word at random,  and ironically it was right.

The rest of the contestants all picked words from the first verse only, and none of them seemed to know that there is more than the football chant to the National Anthem.. Some of them didn’t even seem to know the first verse, let alone any others!

Even one of the presenters confused the second and third verses.(Guess which one!)

Not that many years ago, all schools would teach all pupils the National Anthem. They would also be taught at Cubs, Scouts, Brownies…
