HOW MANY OTHER LIFTS ARE UNSAFE?

I know from personal experience that both of the lifts in my block have been running without the safety back-ups they should have had literally for years.

I am talking about the two lifts in Bentworth Court, lifts BG64 and BG65.

There was originally a safety telephone facility linked to the central Tower Hamlets alarms control room. This was vandalised and made unusable many years ago, and finally removed completely around 18 months ago.

The problem is that nothing has been installed in their place.

This means that the only system remaining is the alarm bell, which has no links to emergency services. All it would take is for the the lift to fail with passengers inside, and the button or the bell to fail for there to be a potential disaster.

It is unbelievable that in this day and age lifts should be allowed to operate without voice communication to a help service, or a telephone or intercom inside.

This makes me wonder how many other lifts there are out there in Tower Hamlets or other nearby boroughs which are operating dangerously. If you know of one, please let me know using the contact form attached.
